Children ministry

History

At the core of Rev. Peter Munyao’s heart was the desire to see children preached to, saved, and delivered from their current situations. Therefore, both he and his wife bless their memories, and embarked on starting a children’s school that developed from the Sunday school at the church that they were pastoring, CCI Bethsaida.
This led them to have a children’s ministry that started strongly in the year 1994 and developed into a feeding program between the years of 2007 & 2010 for children of tender age as the Lord led them since.

They saw the need to feed the children since most of them came from impoverished backgrounds and what was supposed to be basic for every home wasn’t common to them. They did this as they raised funds from their own pockets, their friends, and well-wishers.

Initially, they gathered the children in the church premises which was a wooden structure before they built the stone building and used it continually to disciple the children and nurture them in the ways of the Lord.

Out of this feeding project, emerged and grew some of the best God-fearing men and women who became the youth within the church and leaders in various scopes of society now, of which some are pastors, businessmen, and women in diverse fields.

The project is managed by CCI Bethsaida church to oversee the dream and vision of the late Rev. Munyao and his wife Justinah

Children in the Program

So far, by the grace of God, we have 175 participants within the program, ages between 3 – 5, 6 – 8, and 9 – 11 years old.

These children enjoy a well-planned Saturday program for them, where they come to get taught God’s word amidst other things, get fed, play with each other, and have fun for the better part of the day before they are picked off by their parents/guardians to go home.

This is a half-day program for them every Saturday apart from public holidays that fall on this day.

The program is designed to bring:-

  • Spiritual development
  • Social Emotional development
  • Physical Development
  • Cognitive development

We also conduct birthday parties for the participants quarterly to celebrate them and give them a feel of a birthday with friends to share a cake and fun.

Partnership

In light of what was happening in the church, compassion spotted the work and desired to partner with the late Reverend Munyao to continue aiding the children this time with the aim of getting them out of poverty and in turn help their families as well.

So compassion initiated a partnership program and saw the contracting signing in November 2019 and the church started recruiting participants into the program by 2020 which unfortunately was stopped on its tracks due to the Covid-19 pandemic which was a huge set back to the progress of that project.

This was picked up officially in 2021 when we saw 166 participants come into the project to kick start the program off.
